Photography is literally "creation (Poiesis) out of light (Photo)" that somehow captures the beauty of a specific moment in time. In this way, photography brings beauty to light.
Although I have been taking photos for half a century, I have only begun making photos for the past decade or so. And though I did capture some beautiful images in my early years while developing a basic understanding of composition and exposure, I have only gradually come to appreciate the fundamental role of the beholder, of the photographer, in bringing beauty to light.
It has been my privilege to witness great beauty in the people and landscapes that I have encountered throughout my travels. And every so often to capture that gesture, that sparkle, that radiance that emanates outward from its inner core to reveal the divine mystery forever lurking in our midst.
